Social & Recreation Programs

The Social and Recreation Program at GMPI encompasses three major areas. First, it has proven to be beneficial by increasing friendships and relationships between an individual and his/her community through recreational activities. The individuals are notified of community based activities and services in their area such as festivals, sporting events and programs. Next, recreation creates connections between the individual and supported activities. With as many as twenty planned activities per month, such as dances and dinners, activities are provided with added support services. Finally, GMPI offers vacations, day trips, professional sporting events, arts & crafts and educational trips. Training for qualifying for participation for the Special Olympics of Massachusetts is another activity that we promote and supervise.

Recreation means something different to everyone. Keeping this in mind, we start with the individual's preferences and provide support for each person to be able to do the type of activity they choose, with an appropriate level of assistance. Clients of GMPI play golf, softball and bowl, attend concerts, take art lessons, dance lessons, and go on fishing trips and more. They attend sporting events, go on day trips and have dinner nights planned. The "uniqueness" we have at GMPI, is that we provide transportation for all of the social and recreational activities.

Today, the Social and Recreation Department continues to provide the necessary, safe and reliable growth opportunities to our client base. This program continues to provide the services necessary for building self esteem in our clients and, most importantly, to support community integration.
