Job Summary:
Counselor will assist with meal preparation, shopping, daily living skills, community integration, and recreational activities.
Qualifications: High School diploma is a must.
Applicants must have the desire to provide support to developmentally disabled adults as they work toward achieving their maximum degree of independence. Effective written and verbal communication skills, valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required, as well as the ability to obtain required First Aid, CPR and MAP Certifications.
Responsibilities:
Provide instruction and supervision to residents in accordance with Individual Service Plan (ISP) goals and objectives, in the areas of personal hygiene, dressing, cooking, housekeeping, money management, personal shopping, etc.
Coordinate the residential program activity for assigned residents by: developing, implementing, and documenting their individual Service Plan; monitoring and assisting the resident in planning and attending recreational activities; providing informal counseling on personal resident concerns; providing progress notes and other necessary documentation for the client’s records.
Assist with or provide transportation to leisure time, medical, and professional appointments.
Monitor resident medical administration and documentation.
Maintain a clean and neat residence with assistance from the residents.
Participate in Greater Marlboro Programs, Inc. provided orientation, in-service training activities, and regularly scheduled residence staff meetings.
Maintain household activity logs and communication within the residence.
Ensure that individuals are treated with dignity and respect in accordance with Greater Marlboro Programs, Inc. Human Rights Policy.
Provide linkage with other program staff and other service providers.
Provide ongoing supports to residents, guidance, role modeling and supervision.
Perform interventions with individuals that address their identified goals and result in skill development.
Remain alert at all times throughout scheduled workday.
Follow agency, division and program policies and procedures and perform duties in accordance with those policies and procedures.
Participate in group work, as delegated by supervisor.
Strictly follow all agency Performance Standards.
Follow any other duties assigned by the Supervisor and the Program Director. Some essential functions listed in this section are not limited only to the tasks listed and may be changed by the Residential Director.
Ability to read and understand English effectively to be able to communicate effectively with individuals.
Must hold a valid driver’s license. Must have access to an operational and insured vehicle and be willing to use it to transport if agency vehicle is not available.
Ability to be a team player.
